Who counts as a beginner

On this ride, a beginner is anyone who has never ridden off-road. Some guests have only ridden a scooter, and some have never used a clutch. Both are fine on the 150, if you say so. In the booking notes, write how many months each rider has ridden a geared bike, plus height and weight. The guide reads those before the day and plans the line.

How the beginner line works

1. Welcome drink at the Suter garage, then the bike fit and gear.
2. A slow level check on flat ground: clutch, throttle, and brakes.
3. Forest tracks and open trail with Lake Batur below, at the slowest rider’s pace.
4. Short, gentle sections of black lava. The deep sand and steep drops are for the advanced line.
5. Lunch at a restaurant on the route, then the ride back to the garage.

The guide sets the pace to the slowest rider in the group. Expect tired forearms and legs by lunch. Off-road riding is more physical than a scooter.

Which bike a beginner should book

The Rp amount under each price is the same US dollar price in rupiah at Rp 16.500 per US$1, the rate fixed with the rate card on 30 September 2026. It is multiplied out exactly, not rounded up, so the lines on an invoice add up to the total in both currencies. It is a conversion, not a second price.

What to wear

• Provided: helmet, goggles, riding boots, and body armour.
• Long trousers, such as jeans or old hiking trousers. They will get dusty.
• A long-sleeve top. The highlands are cooler than Ubud, and it protects your arms.
• A light jacket in the rain months.
• Sunscreen, and a dry change of clothes for the car.

If nobody in your group wants to ride a geared bike, the Mount Batur jeep goes to the same lava field, with a driver.
